SOURCE: Business.NJ.gov
On March 3, 2021, Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order 228 that extends the moratorium preventing New Jersey residents from having their utilities disconnected through at least June 30, 2021. The moratorium applies to public and private entities that service residential gas, electric, and water utilities. Water Governor Murphy has announced that "all New Jersey water companies have voluntarily agreed to suspend shut-offs during this #COVID19 emergency." We recommend that you reach out to your service provider directly to confirm this is their policy.
Electric and Gas The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) has also announced that the state’s public electric and gas utilities have universally agreed to suspend service shutoffs statewide in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Internet and Phone The governor's Executive Order 126, which prevents internet and voice service from being terminated or downgraded due to nonpayment, is currently for residential service only.
